Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Cherry Sunburst 2009 Unsung Factory

Description:

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This ‘case queen’ is a perfect example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, Epiphone Les Paul.  This guitar was made in the Unsung Plant in Korea in October 2009.

This guitar seems to have hardly been played, and I challenge you to find a ‘used’ Les Paul Standard built in 2009 (16 years ago) in better shape!

Full disclosure:  On inspecting the guitar whilst setting it up and preparing ready for sale, it was noticed that the guitar has a very minor surface only lacquer crack above the neck pocket on the neck, (less than 4cm); this a minor lacquer defect and does not affect the playability/neck stability in any way.  You can only feel this by running you nail over the area (most people would miss it). I have tried to photograph and video to show the above mentioned to provide reassurance. I am so confident with this not being an issue, whilst I do not normally offer guarantees, in this instance, should the guitar neck fail, in this area only, I would accept a return and provide a full refund, up to 6 months from the date of purchase, subject to the guitar being returned to me with no signs of misuse i.e. the guitar must be in the same condition as when it was purchased from me, other than the mentioned area fail, with no signs of further damage.

I have shown the above in the pictures and videos and should it be required I can provide more photo’s/videos upon request.

It has just had a full setup, making various small adjustments to lower the action and make the guitar sing, this included a fretboard condition, cleaned frets, pots being cleaned, and re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (9-42) gauge.

Framus AK74 (made by Warwick, Germany c.2001) – Refinished in Vintage Sunburst Nitrocellulose

Description:

A superb and increasingly hard-to-find Framus AK74, built in Germany by Warwick around 2001 as part of the reissue run inspired by the iconic 1974 Jan Akkermann signature model. This example was originally produced for Framus artist/demo use and showcases the intelligent refinements Warwick introduced while retaining the unmistakable character of the original AK 74.

The modernised AK74 moves to a neck-through construction, a feature Jan Akkermann originally wanted in the 1970s but couldn’t be implemented at the time. Combined with its updated D-profile neck and a comfortable nut width, just under 43mm, the guitar plays noticeably smoother than the wide-neck originals.

A defining AK74 feature of this instrument is the large f-hole, this paired with a body that is hollowed on both sides of the flamed maple neck, not only keeps weight down but also adds to the guitar’s open, airy acoustic response. Instead of the spruce top found in the original 1974 model, this reissue uses a beautifully figured, two-piece 20mm flamed maple top, together with a flamed maple back and a flamed sycamore maple neck-through core.

The electronics faithfully reproduce the original 6-way switching concept, complete with the large rotary selector. However, Warwick upgraded the pickups to Seymour Duncan humbuckers (SSH-2 N & SSH-4), addressing the bass-heavy reputation of the 1970s guitars and giving the updated instrument a far more versatile and articulate voice.

Originally finished in Cherry Sunburst, the factory lacquer unfortunately failed over time. Around 2021, the guitar underwent a refinish/refurbishment by the late Fern of Fern Evergreen Guitars, now presented in a stunning Vintage Sunburst Nitrocellulose finish. As the refinish was carried out in a small custom guitar workshop, it is not 100% perfect; however, some of the minor flaws add genuinely to its character, and the instrument has been priced accordingly. These small imperfections are clearly shown in the photos and video under direct lighting. During the restoration, the original nut was also upgraded to a hand-cut bone nut.

The guitar comes complete with an Epiphone hardcase and a rare Official Framus Instruments Owner Manual, a collectible item in its own right.

Excellent knowledge and no pressure approach of anything to do with a guitar. Repaired the broken neck of my Gibson Les Paul and made adjustments to the set up, restrung and cleaned now plays amazing. My Stratocaster had lost its magic after 10 or so years of constant play, especially towards the higher end but after a few days with Ben felt brand-new again.  My fender P Bass also had years of play with no set up. I was having issues with the bridge which Ben managed to fix instantly. When adjusting the trust rod Ben noticed that the bass felt different and reverted back to its original position which was a very nice personal touch for me as it plays exactly the way I want it, keeping the string tension low. Ben assured me if I had any problems to bring it back straight away, but I have no problems at all. The write ups/reports provided are a really cool extra as I get to read everything Ben has done. 100% recommended.

Ben did an absolutely fantastic job setting up my guitar. It plays and sounds better than ever! He’s super helpful, super friendly, and clearly knows his stuff. He took the time to explain everything and made sure I was completely happy before I left. Couldn’t recommend him highly enough!

Gibson 1959 Les Paul Reissue VOS 2007 Sunrise Tea Burst

If you know, you know! R9’s are the closest thing to an original 1959 Les Paul without spending many more £00,000s. Gibson historic reissues are built with extraordinary attention to period detail, and that authenticity is exactly what makes them so special.

This guitar is a vibey, well‑played R9 that was clearly someone’s go‑to instrument, and for good reason. It’s got honest, natural wear, a wonderfully worn‑in neck, and tons of mojo, a textbook example of how the good ones always get played!

During a full inspection it was clear the bridge volume pot had been changed at some point, and the bridge pickup had been subject to a DIY wax‑potting attempt, so the original status of the pickup also couldn’t be confirmed. It was decided to bring the guitar back toward original factory spec with quality parts that also improve reliability and tone. The parts that have been changed are:

• All pots changed to high quality CG CTS (USA) 500k Pots
• Luxe® repro paper and oil Luxe Bumble Bee caps
• Era‑correct Gibson Burstbucker #2 bridge pickup
• Graph Tech TUSQ nut
• CG Vintage Relic 50’s Square Ivory Jack Plate
• CG LP Pickguard & Pickguard Bracket

*All original parts that have been swapped, will be supplied with the guitar.

The guitar comes in a Faber Lifton ’59 LP Case, Custom Shop professional version.

The original COA was lost, and Gibson will not re‑issue one. However, we have emails from Gibson confirming the serial number matches the guitar, with our photos provided; all checks have been made to verify the model, and Gibson even commented how ‘fantastic’ the flame top is. This has provided confidence in the guitar’s authenticity.

Plugged in, you get the bite, bloom and sustain you expect from a great R9. The Burstbuckers deliver just the right output and harmonic richness, open, dynamic, and ultra‑responsive to picking nuance. Clean tones are woody and full; overdriven tones sing with midrange complexity and a tight low end. It’s the kind of guitar that sounds as good as looks and it feels in the hand.

The guitar is in player’s condition. A buyer should expect genuine play wear: small dents, marks, and indentations on the neck, headstock and body, real history, real play marks, not artificial relicing done by the Murphy lab. These are clearly shown in photos and video under direct lighting. There are no breaks or repairs other than the works noted above. There is loads of life in the frets and everything works as it should. This is just a proper, road-hardened Gibson R9 that sounds and feels as good as it looks.

A true one-off custom Warwick you’re unlikely to see again. This late 90’s German made Warwick Streamer Stage 1 began life as a standard 4-string model with a premium ebony fingerboard, before being sent to Martin Sims (Sims Custom Shop) for a full custom treatment.

Finished in a deep black high-gloss, Martin Sims embedded a real Ganja leaf inside the lacquer, a process that, to our knowledge, has never been replicated on another instrument. He also created custom leaf inlays fitted with green LEDs, giving the bass a stunning and unmistakably unique look.

This instrument was built during the same era that Martin Sims was crafting cutting-edge custom basses for Stuart Zender of Jamiroquai, adding even more pedigree to its history. It was originally made for the artist-endorsement representative working with Warwick’s UK distributor at the time, giving it an authentic and fascinating backstory.

This upgrade will not only provide you with improved ability to control your sound with better, custom spec quality pots, but you will also hear and feel the difference in your guitars amplified sound. This is the ideal way to improve and get the very best out of your guitar.

Most production guitars have been built using reasonable quality components (and in some cases inferior, cheap components) but if you want to get the very best out of your guitar, surely then manufacturers should be using the best quality parts available on the market. Upgrading your guitars electronics is a cost-effective way of vastly improving your guitar’s sound and ability to shape your tone.  

1950s Les Paul wiring differs from modern wiring primarily in how the tone pots are connected to the volume pots. In 50s wiring, the tone pots are connected to the output of the volume pots, whereas in modern wiring, they are connected to the input of the volume pots. This difference impacts the interaction between the volume and tone controls, affecting the overall tone and how it changes when the volume is rolled back. 1950’s wiring will give you a brighter, more dynamic tone and more interactive controls.

This upgrade has been built using very high-quality components.

CTS Premium 500k CG Short Split Shaft Pot 5% + – Tolerance

These US pots have been made to custom specs for a high-end guitar parts supplier in the UK.  They feature a solid brass thread and shaft on a Bakelite base plate with a lower turning torque for the right balance between a smoother response and some resistance.

This Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul ’59 Reissue displays a highly figured flamed maple top with loads of movement in different light, a beautiful mahogany back and neck as well as a rosewood fret board. It is in lovely condition for a guitar over 20 years old. The hardware is ageing beautifully and has light tarnishing to most the metal parts. It weighs a comfortable 4kg / 8.8 lbs and comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and original Lifton reissue case.

It has had a full setup, making various small adjustments to lower the action and make the guitar sing, this included a fretboard condition, and it’s been re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (10-46) gauge.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Ebony (Black) 2013

Description:

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This is a great example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, Epiphone Les Paul.  This guitar was made in the Qingdao factory in China in November 2013.

It has just had a full setup, making various small adjustments to lower the action and make the guitar sing, this included a fretboard condition, cleaned frets, cleaned chrome parts, pots & switch being cleaned, and re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (9-46) gauge.

The guitar has clearly been used and enjoyed for many years and will continue to be enjoyed as it feels and sounds great!  It remains in good overall condition with loads of life left in the frets.  The guitar has a very small dent just behind the 5^th fret dot marker.  There are also a few minor scratches and marks around the body but these there are the very typical normal dents/marks and light scratches of a guitar that’s been played and enjoyed for 12 years, certainly nothing that affects play, or are noticeable unless inspecting the guitar thoroughly.  I have shown all of the above in the pictures and videos and I can provide more photo’s/videos upon request. These marks and imperfections are purely cosmetic and don’t affect playability in any way.

This guitar is also loaded with Epiphone 57 Classic Alnico 5 pickups. The 57 is a humbucker pickup designed for today’s guitar player regardless of style or genre. The unique combination of Alnico V magnets and steel pole pieces evoke an unmistakably PAF quality in its tone.  Alnico V magnets provide the warm, smooth mid-range, and expansive lows while the ceramic pole pieces bring out the clarity in the Sound.

This guitar looks as good as it feels and sounds. I can assure you if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

Excellent knowledge and no pressure approach of anything to do with a guitar. Repaired the broken neck of my Gibson Les Paul and made adjustments to the set up, restrung and cleaned now plays amazing. Also had a full set up and fretboard wax on a US Fender Strat now plays lovely . Bens attention to detail is the key to making your instrument play to its potential.

Had an old Aria 9300 acoustic guitar with a loose tuner and required some proper TLC! Ben was fantastic throughout the whole process and now has this acoustic playing the best it’s ever felt – for all guitar fixes and servicing, Ben’s your man!

My Stratocaster had lost its magic after 10 or so years of constant play, especially towards the higher end but after a few days with Ben felt brand-new again.  My fender P Bass also had years of play with no set up. I was having issues with the bridge which Ben managed to fix instantly. When adjusting the trust rod Ben noticed that the bass felt different and reverted back to its original position which was a very nice personal touch for me as it plays exactly the way I want it, keeping the string tension low. Ben assured me if I had any problems to bring it back straight away, but I have no problems at all. The write ups/reports provided are a really cool extra as I get to read everything Ben has done. 100% recommended.

Ben did an absolutely fantastic job setting up my guitar. It plays and sounds better than ever! He’s super helpful, super friendly, and clearly knows his stuff. He took the time to explain everything and made sure I was completely happy before I left. Couldn’t recommend him highly enough!

Fender USA Stratocaster 1987 in Olympic White Maple Fingerboard – Rare EE Serial No.

This is an iconic, beautifully balanced, easy to play, great sounding guitar played by the greats such a Hendrix, Clapton, Gilmore etc.

In 1985 CBS sold Fender to a group of Fender employees backed by private investors, and they opened the flagship US factory and headquarters in Corona, California. This guitar was made in the US in 1987 (CTS pots dated), in the Corona factory, and it was made for the export market, hence the EE serial number. The EE serial numbered models are quite sort after, as rumour has it that Custom shop parts were used in the production of these models, and the EE serial number models are well known for their exceptional build quality.

This beautiful example has mojo oozing out of it! This is a vintage guitar now aged 38, and like a good wine, it is only getting better in time.

These guitars are not so easy to date however the year of production has been verified by the dating of the CTS pots (as shown in the pics).

The guitar has a lovely feeling neck, easy to play and the fingerboard is in excellent shape with plenty of life left in the frets. The action is low and the guitar has been recently had a full setup, to make the guitar sing, and been re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (9-46) gauge. The TBX tone control had a slight crackle when being turned however this has been almost entirely eliminated with some switch cleaner and is now hardly noticeable and was not worthwhile replacing.

The guitar has been played and enjoyed and bears the marks typical of a guitar of its age, (all shown in the pictures).

It comes with its original Fender case.

Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute Plus Translucent Black 2016 with Gibson ’57 classic humbuckers

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This guitar is a great example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, best of the Epiphone Les Paul range.  This guitar was made in China in 2016 and is in good condition.

The Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute Plus honours Epiphone’s friendship with innovator Les Paul by combining his classic design features with legendary Epiphone quality and value with the added feature of Gibson USA ’57 classic humbuckers, series parallel switching, a 1960’s Slim-Taper neck profile, a Locktone Stopbar/Tune-o-matic tailpiece and bridge and Grover Rotomatic machine heads.

The guitar is in good condition for a rock machine properly enjoyed since it was built! 

The guitar has a slight indent on the back of the neck bass side, around the third fret, it also has a minor lacquer crack by the nut treble side (less than 2cm); these are minor, and do not affect the playability/neck stability in any way.  The guitar has some small areas on the body where there are some surface only marks / playing scratches, these are barely visible and mostly only visible moving the guitar in and out of direct light.  As would be expected some of the hardware has started to naturally age, again hardly visible and some people pay extra for this from the Gibson Murphy Lab! Please note that these are purely cosmetic and barely noticeable to the naked eye. I have tried to photograph and video to show all of the above mentioned to provide reassurance.

This guitar comes with a Rocktile oversized gig bag.
