Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Ebony / Black (2010)

The Epiphone Les Paul Standard in classic Ebony / Black is a fantastic example of a a solid, well-built, great-playing Les Paul that delivers both looks and tone in equal measure.

The Les Paul is, of course, one of the most iconic guitars in the world, used by countless guitar heroes over the years. This particular example was made in September 2010 at the DaeWon / Unsung factory in China and is in excellent condition for its age, clearly having been very well looked after.

Tonally, this guitar offers a great combination of vintage warmth, bite and modern punch. In the neck position, as factory standard, it is fitted with an Epiphone 57CH(G) (Alnico Classic) humbucker, delivering smooth, warm, PAF-style tones with plenty of clarity. In the bridge, also as factory standard, you have the Epiphone HOTCH(G) pickup, a higher-output humbucker with Alnico V magnets, offering a brighter, more aggressive voice with plenty of growl, ideal for rock and lead playing. Together, they provide a very versatile tonal range, covering everything from clean, rounded tones to punchy, driven sounds.

This guitar has undergone a full refurbishment and professional setup, including cleaning of all parts, fretboard conditioning, pots & switch cleaning, and has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9–42 gauge). It plays beautifully with a comfortable low action and feels great in the hands.

Condition-wise, this is a particularly clean example for a 16-year-old Epiphone, it even still had the original protective plastic on the scratchplate. As expected, there are a couple of small cosmetic signs of use: two light scratches on the back of the body (each under 20mm, likely from a belt buckle), and a small factory finish imperfection on the back of the neck. This sits beneath the lacquer, is purely visual, and cannot be felt when playing, it has absolutely no impact whatsoever on playability or performance. When viewed under direct lighting, it can appear slightly like faint fingerprints underneath the finish and hardly noticeable in certain light. As with all guitars it has the very lightest swirl marks/light surface scratches visible under direct lighting. All of these details have been shown as clearly as possible in the pictures and video.

This Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60s “Inspired by Gibson” in stunning Iced Tea Burst is a fantastic example of the newer generation of Epiphone guitars, designed with vintage-accurate specifications and that unmistakable classic Les Paul feel.

The Les Paul is, of course, one of the most iconic guitars in the world, used by countless guitar heroes over the years. This particular example was made in August 2022 at the Qingdao factory in China and presents in exceptional condition, clearly having been very well looked after.

Part of Epiphone’s hugely successful “Inspired by Gibson” range, these models were created to bring the look, feel and tone of vintage Les Pauls to a more accessible price point. You get all the key ingredients here, a mahogany body paired with a maple cap for that classic combination of warmth, punch and top-end clarity, delivering the unmistakable Les Paul sound.

This guitar is fitted with Epiphone USA-designed ProBucker humbuckers, with a ProBucker 2 in the neck and a slightly hotter ProBucker 3 in the bridge. Together with CTS potentiometers and vintage-style wiring, this setup delivers rich, dynamic, touch-sensitive tones, from smooth, warm cleans to biting, articulate lead sounds. It’s a very responsive guitar that feels alive in the hands.

The guitar features a Kalamazoo-style headstock, Wilkinson tuners, Graph Tech nut, and Epiphone’s LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece, all contributing to excellent tuning stability, sustain and reliability.

Condition-wise, this is very much a “case queen.” It is in mint condition, with only the very lightest swirl marks/light surface scratches visible under direct lighting. These have been shown as clearly as possible in the pictures and video and are exactly what you would expect from minimal careful use.

The guitar has also had a full professional setup, including cleaning of all parts, fretboard conditioning, pots & switch cleaning, and has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9–42 gauge). It plays beautifully with a comfortable low action.

This Epiphone Les Paul Standard 50s “Inspired by Gibson” in Vintage Sunburst is a fantastic example of the newer generation of Epiphone guitars designed with vintage-accurate specifications and the classic Les Paul feel. These 50s models were released toward the end of 2019 as part of Epiphone’s move toward more historically accurate features, delivering a “proper” Les Paul feel with rich, touch-sensitive vintage tones.

The Les Paul is, of course, one of the most iconic guitars in the world, used by countless guitar heroes over the years. This particular guitar was made in December 2019 at the Qingdao factory in China and has clearly been someone’s pride and joy. It has been used but kept in very good overall condition.

While it has the usual minor light play marks/light scratches (exaggerated in the photos as under direct lighting), and which is consistent with normal use, it has had a minor cosmetic repair to a small bump on the top of the headstock, (near the G string), where the paint was starting to crack/chip. This area has now been polished smooth and is now barely noticeable. There is also a small grazing to the back/side curve in between the strap button and jack socket. These cosmetic issues, along with the usual light play marks/scratches, do not affect playability or tone and are shown in the pictures and video.

The guitar has been professionally set up, with new D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge), and plays beautifully with comfortable medium/low action.

Gibson 1959 Les Paul Reissue VOS 2007 Sunrise Tea Burst

If you know, you know. The Gibson 1959 Les Paul Reissue is about as close as it gets to owning an original 1959 Les Paul without spending many more £00,000s. Gibson Historic reissues are built with extraordinary attention to period-correct detail, and that authenticity is exactly what makes them so sought after.

This particular R9 is a vibey, well-played example that has clearly been someone’s go-to instrument, and for good reason. It has honest, natural wear, a beautifully worn-in neck, and tons of mojo… a textbook case of how the good ones never stay in their cases.

During a full in depth inspection, it was noted that the bridge volume pot may have previously been changed and the bridge pickup had been subject to a DIY wax-potting attempt, meaning the originality of that pickup could not be confirmed. As a result, it was decided to bring the guitar back closer to factory-correct spec using high-quality, era-appropriate components, improving both reliability and tone.

The following work has been carried out:

• All pots upgraded to high-quality CG CTS (USA) 500k pots
• Luxe® repro paper-in-oil Bumblebee capacitors
• Era-correct Gibson Burstbucker #2 bridge pickup
• Graph Tech TUSQ nut
• CG Vintage Relic 50s square ivory jack plate
• CG LP pickguard and bracket

All original removed parts are included in the sale.

The original COA has unfortunately been lost, and Gibson do not reissue replacements. However, we have written confirmation from Gibson verifying that the serial number matches this instrument, supported by photos. All checks have been carried out, and Gibson even commented on how “fantastic” the flame top is, which gives additional confidence in the guitar’s authenticity.

Plugged in, this guitar delivers everything you would hope for from a great R9, bite, boom, sustain and clarity in abundance. The Burstbuckers provide that perfect balance of output and harmonic richness, remaining open, dynamic and incredibly responsive to picking nuance. Clean tones are woody and full, while overdriven tones sing with midrange complexity and a tight, controlled low end. It’s the kind of guitar that feels alive in your hands.

The guitar is in player’s condition, so a buyer should expect genuine signs of use: small dents, marks and indentations across the neck, headstock and body. This is real wear from years of playing and enjoying this wonderful guitar, not artificial relicing like those R9’s from the Gibson Murphy Lab, which folks pay vast amount of extra $$ for! All of these details are clearly shown in the photos and video and may appear more pronounced under direct lighting. Importantly, there are no breaks or structural repairs. There is plenty of life left in the frets and everything functions exactly (or better) as it should.

Framus AK74 (made by Warwick, Germany c.2001) – Refinished in Vintage Sunburst Nitrocellulose

Description:

A superb and increasingly hard-to-find Framus AK74, built in Germany by Warwick around 2001 as part of the reissue run inspired by the iconic 1974 Jan Akkermann signature model. This example was originally produced for Framus artist/demo use and showcases the intelligent refinements Warwick introduced while retaining the unmistakable character of the original AK 74.

The modernised AK74 moves to a neck-through construction, a feature Jan Akkermann originally wanted in the 1970s but couldn’t be implemented at the time. Combined with its updated D-profile neck and a comfortable nut width, just under 43mm, the guitar plays noticeably smoother than the wide-neck originals.

A defining AK74 feature of this instrument is the large f-hole, this paired with a body that is hollowed on both sides of the flamed maple neck, not only keeps weight down but also adds to the guitar’s open, airy acoustic response. Instead of the spruce top found in the original 1974 model, this reissue uses a beautifully figured, two-piece 20mm flamed maple top, together with a flamed maple back and a flamed sycamore maple neck-through core.

The electronics faithfully reproduce the original 6-way switching concept, complete with the large rotary selector. However, Warwick upgraded the pickups to Seymour Duncan humbuckers (SSH-2 N & SSH-4), addressing the bass-heavy reputation of the 1970s guitars and giving the updated instrument a far more versatile and articulate voice.

Originally finished in Cherry Sunburst, the factory lacquer unfortunately failed over time. Around 2021, the guitar underwent a refinish/refurbishment by the late Fern of Fern Evergreen Guitars, now presented in a stunning Vintage Sunburst Nitrocellulose finish. As the refinish was carried out in a small custom guitar workshop, it is not 100% perfect; however, some of the minor flaws add genuinely to its character, and the instrument has been priced accordingly. These small imperfections are clearly shown in the photos and video under direct lighting. During the restoration, the original nut was also upgraded to a hand-cut bone nut.

The guitar comes complete with an Epiphone hardcase and a rare Official Framus Instruments Owner Manual, a collectible item in its own right.

Excellent knowledge and no pressure approach of anything to do with a guitar. When adjusting the trust rod Ben noticed that the bass felt different and reverted back to its original position which was a very nice personal touch for me as it plays exactly the way I want it, keeping the string tension low. Ben assured me if I had any problems to bring it back straight away, but I have no problems at all. The write ups/reports provided are a really cool extra as I get to read everything Ben has done. 100% recommended.

Finished in a deep black high-gloss, Martin Sims embedded a real Ganja leaf inside the lacquer, a process that, to our knowledge, has never been replicated on another instrument. He also created custom leaf inlays fitted with green LEDs, giving the bass a stunning and unmistakably unique look.

This instrument was built during the same era that Martin Sims was crafting cutting-edge custom basses for Stuart Zender of Jamiroquai, adding even more pedigree to its history. It was originally made for the artist-endorsement representative working with Warwick’s UK distributor at the time, giving it an authentic and fascinating backstory.

Most production guitars have been built using reasonable quality components (and in some cases inferior, cheap components) but if you want to get the very best out of your guitar, surely then manufacturers should be using the best quality parts available on the market. Upgrading your guitars electronics is a cost-effective way of vastly improving your guitar’s sound and ability to shape your tone.  

1950s Les Paul wiring differs from modern wiring primarily in how the tone pots are connected to the volume pots. In 50s wiring, the tone pots are connected to the output of the volume pots, whereas in modern wiring, they are connected to the input of the volume pots. This difference impacts the interaction between the volume and tone controls, affecting the overall tone and how it changes when the volume is rolled back. 1950’s wiring will give you a brighter, more dynamic tone and more interactive controls.
