The Les Paul Custom has always sat proudly at the very top of the range in terms of aesthetics, features, and overall presence, and every time I see one in Alpine White, it immediately transports my thoughts to Randy Rhoads and the über-cool presence he had whilst rocking the stage. Built in April 2004 at the highly respected Unsung factory in Korea, this guitar oozes mojo with its “come and play me” looks, backed up by smooth, effortless playability and with a myriad of sounds that really resonate with many players.

Early 2000s Korean-made Epiphones from the Unsung plant (identified by the “U” prefix in the serial number) are widely considered part of the “golden era” of Epiphone manufacturing. These guitars are respected by players and luthiers alike for their skilled construction, quality wood selection, and superb craftsmanship. When professionally set up and maintained, (as all guitars that come through Sosbro Guitar Co. are), these Unsung-built Customs have developed a strong reputation as serious “value giants,” comfortably rivalling far more expensive instruments in both feel and performance.

Tonally, this guitar delivers everything you expect from a high-end Les Paul. In the neck position, it is fitted with the factory Epiphone 57CH humbucker, delivering smooth, warm, PAF-style clarity. In the bridge, you have the Epiphone HOTCH pickup, a higher-output humbucker offering a brighter, more aggressive voice with plenty of bite and growl for rock and lead work. Together, they offer a versatile tonal palette that sounds fantastic whether you’re playing clean or running through a pushed tube amp.

Condition-wise, it is quite unbelievable how near perfect this guitar is for an instrument built 22 years ago. While it has clearly been played and enjoyed over the years, this example is a true “case queen” in the sense that there is practically not a single mark on it. The previous owner clearly treated it with the absolute care and respect an instrument of this calibre deserves.

As with all instruments that pass through my hands, this guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment to ensure it arrives stage and studio ready. I have cleaned all the hardware, conditioned the fretboard, and cleaned and tested all the pots (replacing the neck tone pot as it was noisy), and cleaned the pickup switch. It has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge) and given a full workshop setup in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop, dialed in with a comfortable low action that makes it an absolute joy to play.

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and the Les Paul Custom has always sat proudly at the very “top of the range” in terms of aesthetics, features, and overall presence. Built in May 2006 at the highly regarded Qingdao factory in China, this particular example is an absolute show stopper.

The flame on this guitar top is just wow, this guitar is absolutely flaming hot! The beautiful Cherry Sunburst finish is perfectly complemented by the factory gold hardware, which has started to mildly age naturally. This perfectly authentic, natural aging just adds to the incredible mojo that seems to ooze out of this beautiful instrument.

Tonally, this guitar offers a great combination of vintage warmth, bite, and modern punch. As factory standard in the neck position, it is fitted with an Epiphone 57CH (Alnico Classic) humbucker, delivering smooth, warm, PAF-style tones with plenty of clarity. In the bridge, you have the Epiphone HOTCH pickup, a higher-output humbucker offering a brighter, more aggressive voice with plenty of growl that is ideal for rock and lead playing. Together, they provide a very versatile tonal range, covering everything from clean, rounded tones to punchy, driven sounds.

Condition-wise, it is quite remarkable for a guitar that was built over 20 years ago. There is almost not a single mark on it. It has clearly been incredibly well looked after, and only shows the usual minor light play marks/light scratches (exaggerated in the photos as under direct lighting), of a guitar of any age.

As with all instruments that pass through my hands, this guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment to ensure it arrives stage-ready. I have cleaned all the hardware, conditioned the fretboard, and cleaned and tested all the pots and pickup switch. This Epiphone Les Paul Standard ’60s “Inspired by Gibson” in a stunning Iced Tea Burst is a fantastic example of the newer generation of Epiphone guitars, designed with vintage accurate specifications and that unmistakable classic Les Paul sound, look and feel.

The Les Paul is, of course, one of the most iconic guitars in the world, used by countless guitar heroes over the years. This particular example was built in November 2019 at the highly regarded Qingdao factory in China and presents beautifully.

Part of Epiphone’s hugely successful “Inspired by Gibson” collection, these models were created to bring the look, feel, and tone of vintage 1960s-era Les Pauls to a more accessible price point. You get all the key ingredients here: a solid mahogany body paired with a maple cap and a beautiful AA flame maple veneer for that classic “flame top” look, delivering the unmistakable Les Paul sound of warmth, punch, and top-end clarity. The mahogany neck features a fast-playing ’60s SlimTaper C-profile, an Indian Laurel fingerboard with pearloid trapezoid inlays, and a Graph Tech nut. The Kalamazoo-style headstock is equipped with quality Grover Rotomatic tuning machines, which, alongside the Epiphone LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, contribute to rock-solid tuning stability, sustain, and reliability.

This guitar is powered by a perfectly balanced set of Epiphone’s acclaimed USA designed ProBucker humbuckers, featuring a ProBucker-2 in the neck position and a slightly hotter ProBucker-3 in the bridge. Together with CTS potentiometers and individual volume and tone controls, this setup delivers rich, dynamic, touch-sensitive tones, from smooth, warm cleans to biting, articulate lead sounds. It is a very responsive guitar that feels alive in the hands.

Overall, the guitar is in great condition for an instrument built nearly 7 years ago, showing only the usual very light surface swirls visible under direct lighting. Some natural light aging has started on the nickel-plated hardware, which just adds to the natural mojo of this beautiful guitar. During the setup inspection, I did notice a very minor, surface-only lacquer crack by the nut. I have checked this area thoroughly with a UV light and I am very confident that this is a minor lacquer defect that does not affect the playability or neck stability in any way. You can only feel it by running your nail over the area, and most people would miss it entirely. I have tried to photograph this as clearly as possible to provide reassurance. I am so confident with this not being a structural issue that, whilst I do not normally offer guarantees, in this instance, should the guitar neck fail in this specific area only, I will accept a return and provide a full refund up to 6 months from the date of purchase. (Note: This is subject to the guitar being returned to me with no signs of misuse; it must be in the exact same condition as when it was purchased, other than the mentioned area failing, with no signs of further damage). The only other mark I could find was a slight mark where a very small ding has been sympathetically mended on the back top of the headstock above the serial number, which is really not all that noticeable.

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and this 2016 Standard in a Black (Ebony) finish is a fantastic example of a solid, well-built, great playing Les Paul that delivers both looks and tone in equal measure. Built in November 2016 at the highly regarded Qingdao factory in China, this guitar delivers the classic look and feel that Les Paul players love.

Tonally, this guitar offers a great combination of vintage warmth, bite, and modern punch. In the neck position, as factory standard, it is fitted with an Epiphone 57CH(G) (Alnico Classic) humbucker, delivering smooth, warm, PAF-style tones with plenty of clarity. In the bridge, also as factory standard, you have the Epiphone HOTCH(G) pickup, a higher-output humbucker with Alnico V magnets, offering a brighter, more aggressive voice with plenty of growl that is ideal for rock and lead playing. Together, they provide a very versatile tonal range, covering everything from clean, rounded tones to punchy, driven sounds.

Overall, the guitar is in great condition for a guitar built nearly 10 years ago, showing only the usual very light surface swirls visible under direct lighting. During the setup inspection, I did notice two very minor, surface-only lacquer cracks by the nut. I have checked this area thoroughly with a UV light and I am very confident that this is a minor lacquer defect that does not affect the playability or neck stability in any way. You can only feel it by running your nail over the area, and most people would miss it entirely. I have tried to photograph and video this as clearly as possible to provide reassurance. I am so confident with this not being a structural issue that, whilst I do not normally offer guarantees, in this instance, should the guitar neck fail in this specific area only, I will accept a return and provide a full refund up to 6 months from the date of purchase. (Note: This is subject to the guitar being returned to me with no signs of misuse; it must be in the exact same condition as when it was purchased, other than the mentioned area failing, with no signs of further damage). The only other mark I could find was a slight mark where a very small ding has been sympathetically mended on the back top of the headstock above the serial number, which is really not all that noticeable.

As with all instruments that pass through my hands, this guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment to ensure it arrives stage ready. I have deep cleaned all the hardware, conditioned the fretboard, and cleaned and tested all the pots and switch. It has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge) and given a full workshop setup in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop, dialed in with a comfortable medium/low action that makes it feel really comfortable to play.

I can assure you, if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Tobacco Sunburst (2003) Unsung Factory Korea 50s Wiring & Upgrades

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and this 2003 Standard in a classic Tobacco Sunburst is a brilliant example of a true player’s instrument. Built in April 2003 at the highly respected Unsung factory in Korea, this guitar has clearly been someone’s trusted workhorse, and for good reason. It feels, plays, and sounds every bit as good as it looks!

Korean made Epiphones from the Unsung plant (typically identified by the “U” prefix in the serial number), are often considered part of the “golden era” of Epiphone manufacturing. These guitars are widely respected for their exceptional build quality, consistency, and craftsmanship, with players constantly praising their resonance, feel, and overall reliability. Over the years, they have developed a strong reputation as serious value instruments that, when properly set up, can comfortably rival far more expensive modern Gibsons in both playability and tone.

Under the hood, the previous owner had made some modifications over the years. When it arrived on the bench, the wiring was a bit of a mess, and the old pots were starting to fail. To bring it back to its full glory, the electronics have been completely overhauled in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop. The guitar is fitted with an Epiphone 57CH(G) neck pickup and an Epiphone HOTCH(G) bridge pickup. To take full advantage of these, we installed brand new FLEOR A500k pots and re-used the premium Cornell Dubilier Electronics (CDE) Orange Drop capacitors (CDE225P100V). The entire harness was meticulously re-wired and has both vintage cloth push-back wire and #20 AWG solid wire for grounding. The previous owner also upgraded the tuners to Wilkinson Deluxe Kluson traditional tuners.

The harness has been wired to authentic 1950s-style specifications. Unlike standard modern wiring that can get muddy and lose its treble when you turn down the volume, ’50s wiring acts as a natural treble bleed, keeping your tone crisp and clear even at lower volumes. Because the volume and tone knobs dynamically “talk” to each other in this circuit, you can easily roll the volume down for sparkly, articulate rhythm parts, and then just turn it right back up for a full, bright solo boost.

Condition-wise, this is not a pristine case queen, but rather a clean, honest example with real character and natural mojo. For a guitar that is now 23 years old, it is in really good shape. I believe in complete transparency with all my stock, so here’s the details: There are a couple of minor dings, including two deeper “war wounds” on the back that have been sympathetically filled and smoothed in the workshop to ensure no further paintwork chipping. The bridge pickup has a very small dimple, and under the truss rod cover, a previous owner made a bit of a mess of the wood. This is almost entirely hidden when the cover is on, but I have included side-by-side photos (cover on and off) for full transparency. Additionally, there is natural wear to the pickup switch cover and the rear electronics cavity cover. In my opinion, this just adds to the natural mojo of a well-played instrument, though replacement plastics are very inexpensive if you prefer a newer look.

Unsung-made Epiphones from this early 2000s era are becoming increasingly harder to find, especially with no major defects and ones that have been professionally setup and seen to. So don’t let this well-built, mature Korean-made Epiphone slip by! I can assure you, if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed.

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and this Epiphone Les Paul Standard 2009 Plain Top in Honey Burst does not disappoint. This particular example was made in September 2009 at the renowned Qingdao factory in China. To me, this guitar gives off the legendary “Bernice” Les Paul guitar, Gary Rossington’s (Lynyrd Skynyrd) ’59, vibes.

Under the hood, this guitar has been subtly but thoughtfully improved. The previous owner upgraded the tuners to Deluxe Kluson-style tuners and completely overhauled the electronics, installing high-grade CTS pots, braided shielded push-back wire, and Sprague Orange Pacer (NOS) 192P Capacitors.

Crucially, the harness has been wired to authentic 1950’s style specifications. Unlike standard modern wiring that can get muddy and lose its treble when you turn down the volume, ’50s wiring acts as a natural treble bleed, keeping your tone crisp and clear even at lower volumes. Because the volume and tone knobs dynamically “talk” to each other in this circuit, you can easily roll the volume down for sparkly, articulate rhythm parts, and then just turn it right back up for a full, bright solo boost.

Condition-wise, the guitar is in near perfect condition other than a very small mark on the rear back curve, (really not all that noticeable but shown in the videos and pictures). The previous owner also appeared to somehow make some minor scratches on the front of the headstock. I have polished the headstock areas in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop, and these minor scratches are now mainly only noticeable under direct lighting. Other than that, it just shows the normal, very light swirl marks of a guitar built 16 years ago that has been well looked after but very much enjoyed. All of these have been shown as clearly as possible in the pictures and video, highlighted under direct workshop lighting.

As with all instruments that pass through my hands, this guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment to ensure it arrives studio / stage ready. I have cleaned all the hardware, conditioned the fretboard, and cleaned and tested all the pots and switch. It has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge) and given a full workshop setup, dialed in with a comfortable medium/low action that makes it an absolute joy to play.

I can assure you, if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

No gig bag or hard case is included in the price, but as a specialist reseller, I have various suitable options available separately. Epiphone Les Paul Custom Heritage Cherry Sunburst 2001 (Korea Factory, Unsung) Upgraded 50’s Wiring

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and the Epiphone Les Paul Custom has always been the “top of the range” in terms of aesthetic, features and presence. This particular example was built in October 2001 at the highly regarded Unsung factory in Korea.

Early 2000s Korean-made Epiphones from the Unsung plant (typically identified by the “U” prefix) are often considered part of the “golden era” of Epiphone manufacturing. These guitars are widely respected for their skilled construction, quality wood selection, and excellent craftsmanship. When properly set up and maintained, these Unsung-built Customs have developed a strong reputation as serious “value giants,” comfortably rivalling far more expensive instruments in both playability and feel.

This guitar has clearly been someone’s “number one” for a long time. It has picked up some honest “war marks” over the years, and discoloration of the gold hardware, typical signs of a great feeling guitar, that a previous owner simply couldn’t put down. This guitar just oozes mojo! Most of the marks and bumps are only noticeable under direct lighting, or when looking up closely, and these are purely cosmetic, with no structural issues. What you can see clearly is that there was some damage to the upper rear front area, (where your right arm rests); this has been re-repaired to a smooth, shiny finish. I have shown all these details as clearly as possible in the pictures and video.

The guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop to bring it back to its best:

• Electronics Overhaul: The previous owner had installed high-output pickups (Iron Gear Hot Slags) and push-pull electrics. Not to my tastes and in my personal opinion, this didn’t do the guitar justice, so I have reverted it to a more vintage-correct character. I have sourced era-correct pickups, an Epiphone 57CH(G) for the neck position and an Epiphone HOTCH(G) in the bridge, providing that classic balance of warm, smooth “PAF” neck tones and a punchy, rock-ready bridge output. The pickup covers are now chrome however as most the gold plating had faded they don’t look out of place, whereas new gold covers would have dramatically changed the aesthetic.
• Sosbro 50s Wiring Harness: To truly make this guitar sing, I have installed a Sosbro Guitar Co. 50s-style wiring harness upgrade (usually priced at £80). This features the best quality components: 4 x CG CTS (USA) 500k Pots and 2 x SoZo (USA) Nexgen 0.022uf Vintage Yellow Mustard Capacitors, all hand-wired with solid 20 AWG tinned wire. This upgrade significantly improves the guitar’s clarity and tonal response. More details of the harness can be found in my other listings.
• Professional Setup: Restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge) and set up for comfortable, medium low action for smooth playability.

Epiphone Les Paul Customs made in the Unsung Factory are becoming harder and harder to find, especially with these kinds of high flame tops. This is an absolute beast of a guitar, with a stunning flame top and a sound and feel that a lot of guitars just don’t have, it’s now fit and ready for its next 20 years of service.

I can assure you, if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

Framus AK74 (made by Warwick, Germany c.2001) – Refinished in Vintage Sunburst Nitrocellulose

Description:

A superb and increasingly hard-to-find Framus AK74, built in Germany by Warwick around 2001 as part of the reissue run inspired by the iconic 1974 Jan Akkermann signature model. This example was originally produced for Framus artist/demo use and showcases the intelligent refinements Warwick introduced while retaining the unmistakable character of the original AK 74.

The modernised AK74 moves to a neck-through construction, a feature Jan Akkermann originally wanted in the 1970s but couldn’t be implemented at the time. Combined with its updated D-profile neck and a comfortable nut width, just under 43mm, the guitar plays noticeably smoother than the wide-neck originals.

A defining AK74 feature of this instrument is the large f-hole, this paired with a body that is hollowed on both sides of the flamed maple neck, not only keeps weight down but also adds to the guitar’s open, airy acoustic response. Instead of the spruce top found in the original 1974 model, this reissue uses a beautifully figured, two-piece 20mm flamed maple top, together with a flamed maple back and a flamed sycamore maple neck-through core.

The electronics faithfully reproduce the original 6-way switching concept, complete with the large rotary selector. However, Warwick upgraded the pickups to Seymour Duncan humbuckers (SSH-2 N & SSH-4), addressing the bass-heavy reputation of the 1970s guitars and giving the updated instrument a far more versatile and articulate voice.

Originally finished in Cherry Sunburst, the factory lacquer unfortunately failed over time. Around 2021, the guitar underwent a refinish/refurbishment by the late Fern of Fern Evergreen Guitars, now presented in a stunning Vintage Sunburst Nitrocellulose finish. As the refinish was carried out in a small custom guitar workshop, it is not 100% perfect; however, some of the minor flaws add genuinely to its character, and the instrument has been priced accordingly. These small imperfections are clearly shown in the photos and video under direct lighting. During the restoration, the original nut was also upgraded to a hand-cut bone nut.

The guitar comes complete with an Epiphone hardcase and a rare Official Framus Instruments Owner Manual, a collectible item in its own right.

Excellent knowledge and no pressure approach of anything to do with a guitar. My Stratocaster had lost its magic after 10 or so years of constant play, especially towards the higher end but after a few days with Ben felt brand-new again.  My fender P Bass also had years of play with no set up. I was having issues with the bridge which Ben managed to fix instantly. When adjusting the trust rod Ben noticed that the bass felt different and reverted back to its original position which was a very nice personal touch for me as it plays exactly the way I want it, keeping the string tension low. Ben assured me if I had any problems to bring it back straight away, but I have no problems at all. The write ups/reports provided are a really cool extra as I get to read everything Ben has done. 100% recommended.

Excellent knowledge and no pressure approach of anything to do with a guitar. Repaired the broken neck of my Gibson Les Paul and made adjustments to the set up, restrung and cleaned now plays amazing. Also had a full set up and fretboard wax on a US Fender Strat now plays lovely . Bens attention to detail is the key to making your instrument play to its potential.

My Stratocaster had lost its magic after 10 or so years of constant play, especially towards the higher end but after a few days with Ben felt brand-new again.  My fender P Bass also had years of play with no set up. I was having issues with the bridge which Ben managed to fix instantly. When adjusting the trust rod Ben noticed that the bass felt different and reverted back to its original position which was a very nice personal touch for me as it plays exactly the way I want it, keeping the string tension low. Ben assured me if I had any problems to bring it back straight away, but I have no problems at all. The write ups/reports provided are a really cool extra as I get to read everything Ben has done. 100% recommended.
