Les Paul Vintage 50’s Wiring Harness (Sosbro Part No. 033)

This upgrade will not only provide you with improved ability to control your sound with better, custom spec quality pots, but you will also hear and feel the difference in your guitars amplified sound. This is the ideal way to improve and get the very best out of your guitar.

Most production guitars have been built using reasonable quality components (and in some cases inferior, cheap components) but if you want to get the very best out of your guitar, surely then manufacturers should be using the best quality parts available on the market. Upgrading your guitars electronics is a cost-effective way of vastly improving your guitar’s sound and ability to shape your tone.  

1950s Les Paul wiring differs from modern wiring primarily in how the tone pots are connected to the volume pots. In 50s wiring, the tone pots are connected to the output of the volume pots, whereas in modern wiring, they are connected to the input of the volume pots. This difference impacts the interaction between the volume and tone controls, affecting the overall tone and how it changes when the volume is rolled back. 1950’s wiring will give you a brighter, more dynamic tone and more interactive controls.

This upgrade has been built using very high-quality components.

CTS Premium 500k CG Short Split Shaft Pot 5% + – Tolerance

These US pots have been made to custom specs for a high-end guitar parts supplier in the UK.  They feature a solid brass thread and shaft on a Bakelite base plate with a lower turning torque for the right balance between a smoother response and some resistance.

SoZo’s Yellow Mustard line of polyester film tube amp capacitors have been thoroughly tested by LA’s best tube amp builders. They are handmade to exact vintage specs, and beat everything available, even in high gain situations.

These caps are successful recreations of the originals and are superbly built and excellent-sounding caps.

Gibson 1959 Les Paul Reissue VOS 2007 Sunrise Tea Burst

If you know, you know. The Gibson 1959 Les Paul Reissue is about as close as it gets to owning an original 1959 Les Paul without spending many more £00,000s. Gibson Historic reissues are built with extraordinary attention to period-correct detail, and that authenticity is exactly what makes them so sought after.

This particular R9 is a vibey, well-played example that has clearly been someone’s go-to instrument, and for good reason. It has honest, natural wear, a beautifully worn-in neck, and tons of mojo… a textbook case of how the good ones never stay in their cases.

During a full in depth inspection, it was noted that the bridge volume pot may have previously been changed and the bridge pickup had been subject to a DIY wax-potting attempt, meaning the originality of that pickup could not be confirmed. As a result, it was decided to bring the guitar back closer to factory-correct spec using high-quality, era-appropriate components, improving both reliability and tone.

The following work has been carried out:

• All pots upgraded to high-quality CG CTS (USA) 500k pots
• Luxe® repro paper-in-oil Bumblebee capacitors
• Era-correct Gibson Burstbucker #2 bridge pickup
• Graph Tech TUSQ nut
• CG Vintage Relic 50s square ivory jack plate
• CG LP pickguard and bracket

All original removed parts are included in the sale.

The original COA has unfortunately been lost, and Gibson do not reissue replacements. However, we have written confirmation from Gibson verifying that the serial number matches this instrument, supported by photos. All checks have been carried out, and Gibson even commented on how “fantastic” the flame top is, which gives additional confidence in the guitar’s authenticity.

Plugged in, this guitar delivers everything you would hope for from a great R9, bite, boom, sustain and clarity in abundance. The Burstbuckers provide that perfect balance of output and harmonic richness, remaining open, dynamic and incredibly responsive to picking nuance. Clean tones are woody and full, while overdriven tones sing with midrange complexity and a tight, controlled low end. It’s the kind of guitar that feels alive in your hands.

The guitar is in player’s condition, so a buyer should expect genuine signs of use: small dents, marks and indentations across the neck, headstock and body. This is real wear from years of playing and enjoying this wonderful guitar, not artificial relicing like those R9’s from the Gibson Murphy Lab, which folks pay vast amount of extra $$ for! All of these details are clearly shown in the photos and video and may appear more pronounced under direct lighting. Importantly, there are no breaks or structural repairs. There is plenty of life left in the frets and everything functions exactly (or better) as it should.

This is not a case queen, it’s a proper, played in R9 with character, tone and presence in equal measure.

The guitar comes complete with a genuine Gibson Les Paul hard case, replacing the previously listed Faber case.

Other than the honest cosmetic signs of use mentioned above, this is a fantastic example of a 2007, 1959 re-issue R9, that deserves to continue to be played and enjoyed.

I can assure you — if this becomes your new guitar, you will not be disappointed.

Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul Standard 1959 Reissue R9 – Cherry Sunburst (2005)

If you know, then you know! R9’s are simply incredible and the closest thing you are going to get to an original Gibson 1959 Les Paul without many, many more £00,000’s.  The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years.

This Gibson Custom Shop Les Paul ’59 Reissue displays a highly figured flamed maple top with loads of movement in different light, a beautiful mahogany back and neck as well as a rosewood fret board. It is in lovely condition for a guitar over 20 years old. The hardware is ageing beautifully and has light tarnishing to most the metal parts. It weighs a comfortable 4kg / 8.8 lbs and comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity (COA) and original Lifton reissue case.

It has had a full setup, making various small adjustments to lower the action and make the guitar sing, this included a fretboard condition, and it’s been re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (10-46) gauge.

Epiphone Les Paul Custom 2008 – Keith Richards Psychedelic Hand-Painted

Description:

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This is a truly unique example of the beautifully constructed Epiphone Les Paul Custom.

The serial number has worn over time and is faint in places; however, using UV light it is believed to read EE080603499. Based on this, the guitar was made in June 2008 at the Qingdao (elektrisch) factory in China.

This guitar is a one-off, hand-painted piece by an unknown artist. The artist appears to have taken a 2008 Epiphone Les Paul Custom and created a tribute to Keith Richards’ late-1960s psychedelic Les Paul. The original guitar (not this one) appeared around 1968 and featured a hand-drawn design believed to depict the sun and moon from Earth’s perspective, along with an erupting volcano. It was seen during the 1970 European tour before being retired, and is now believed to be in the hands of a private collector. This guitar captures that spirit in a bold and creative way.

On this guitar, the artwork has been hand painted over the original lacquer, giving the front a slightly textured finish somewhere between matte and gloss, so it is not perfectly smooth to the touch. The paint is solid and stable. Unlike the original, the knobs have not been hand painted but instead feature silver star stickers to create a similar effect.

As expected for a guitar of this age (around 18 years old), some of the gold hardware and binding has naturally aged, with areas of plating wear. This kind of natural relicing is something many players actively seek out, and something the Gibson Murphy Lab aims to replicate artificially.

This guitar has clearly been a “go to” instrument, having been played and enjoyed. As such, it has picked up some minor bumps and knocks, all of which are purely cosmetic and do not affect playability or structure in any way. These have been shown as clearly as possible in the pictures and video and may appear more pronounced under direct lighting. If you are looking for a pristine “case queen” this may not be the one, but if you want a guitar with real character and mojo, this absolutely delivers.

The guitar has had a full refurbishment and professional setup, including cleaning of all parts, fretboard conditioning, pots & switch cleaning, and has been fitted with a fresh set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (9–42 gauge). It plays beautifully with a very comfortable medium to low action.

The 3-way selector switch offers the following tonal configuration:
• Rhythm position: neck pickup
• Middle position: neck, middle and bridge together
• Treble position: bridge pickup and middle

I have sold a large number of Les Pauls (both Epiphone and Gibson) over the years, and this is without doubt one of the most unique pieces I’ve had come through, a real conversation starter that stands out from the crowd.

Other than the cosmetic signs of use mentioned above, this is a well-built Epiphone Les Paul Custom with a completely unique aesthetic, ready to continue to be played and enjoyed.

I can assure you if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This is a fantastic example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, semi-hollow Epiphone Les Paul ES. This guitar was built in March 2001 at the highly regarded Unsung factory in Korea.

Early 2000s Korean-made Epiphones from the Unsung plant (typically identified by the “U” prefix in the serial number) are often considered part of the “golden era” of Epiphone manufacturing. These guitars are widely respected for their skilled construction, quality wood selection and excellent craftsmanship. Many players praise the consistent build quality, resonance and use of high-quality woods, components and feel, and these guitars have developed a strong reputation as serious value giants. When properly set up, they can comfortably rival far more expensive modern Gibsons, in both playability and tone.

This guitar is now over 25 years old and has clearly been well looked after. Naturally, over time it had picked up some minor cosmetic knocks, marks and scratches. It has now undergone a thorough refurbishment, with some of the light bumps, knocks and scratches sympathetically filled and polished. These areas are now really only visible under direct lighting. As expected for a guitar of this age, there are still some normal light surface scratches consistent with 25 years of careful use. Please note there are no breaks or repairs other than the mentioned marks and scratches and these are purely cosmetic, I have shown these in the pictures and videos as best as possible.

It has had a new Switchcraft 3-way toggle switch professionally installed, all hardware cleaned, and the pots cleaned. It has also been re-strung with a new set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound Strings (9-42) gauge and set up to play beautifully with comfortable low action.

This is the second 2001 Unsung-made Les Paul ES I have had for sale, the first one was listed at £775, these are rarer than hen’s teeth, so don’t let this one get away from you.

Other than the minor cosmetic signs of age mentioned above, this is a well-built, mature Korean-made Epiphone that deserves to continue to be played and enjoyed.

I can assure you if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and this Limited Edition 2014 Honey Burst is an absolutely exceptional, heavily upgraded example.

This guitar started its life as a Limited Edition Epiphone Custom Shop Les Paul Pro, built in November 2014 at the Qingdao factory in China. It was clearly someone’s very special piece, and it’s surprising the former owner let this go, a decision I am sure they have lived to regret!

It is a visually stunning instrument, sporting a beautiful AAA flame top, but it’s not just a beauty to look at, it feels and sounds every bit as good. This is one of those guitars that, once you start playing, you simply do not want to put down.

What truly sets this guitar apart from the pack is what is under the hood; it has been professionally transformed into a true tone monster. It is fitted with a premium set of Seymour Duncan Whole Lotta™ Humbuckers. Born from Seymour’s time winding custom pickups in London during the classic British rock era, these humbuckers are designed to sound massive. They push your amp beautifully, adding incredible warmth, balance, and a highly musical natural compression and sustain to your sound. These pickups were hand built in Santa Barbara, Southern California, USA and these alone would set you back over £250!

To take full advantage of these top-tier pickups, the wiring harness has also been fully upgraded to the legendary Jimmy Page wiring scheme, utilizing premium Orange Drop Capacitors. The sheer amount of tonal versatility this setup provides is absolutely staggering.

Condition-wise, this guitar is in near-perfect condition. There is some light, natural oxidation starting to present on the pickup poles and surround screws. This does not affect the sound in any way and honestly just adds a fantastic touch of natural mojo to the instrument. Other than that, it just shows the normal, very light swirl marks of a guitar that has been well looked after but very much enjoyed. All of these have been shown as clearly as possible in the pictures and video, highlighted under direct workshop lighting.

As with all instruments that pass through my hands, this guitar has had a full professional setup in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop. This includes a deep clean of all parts, fretboard conditioning, and a thorough cleaning of all pots and switches. It has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9–42 gauge) and plays beautifully with a comfortable low action.

I can assure you, if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top – Faded Cherry Sunburst (2019) – The “Beano” Vibe – SOLD

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and for me, this plain top Faded Cherry Sunburst absolutely screams of the glorious, lost-in-the-Bermuda-Triangle Clapton ‘Beano’ Les Paul. This particular example was built in June 2019 at the renowned Qingdao factory in China.

This guitar has clearly been used and enjoyed, and it possesses that unmistakable, comfortable feel of a true ‘go-to’ instrument. It’s not a case queen that has been locked away under the bed, but rather a clean, honest example with real natural mojo that is ready to be played at any given opportunity.

Overall, the guitar is in good condition with loads of life left in the frets. As is typical for an instrument built over 7 years ago that has actually seen action, it had picked up some knocks and dents over the years. I believe in total transparency with my stock and listings, so please note that most of these have now been sympathetically filled and polished in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop. This was done for cosmetic purposes and to ensure the dents no longer chip away or degrade further over time. The main areas of repair are on the bottom edge between the jack socket and the strap pin, and on the side of the body where your arm naturally rests. These areas are now completely smooth to the touch and only slightly visible.

Alongside this, it has the usual minor, light play marks and surface scratches. I have shown these in the pictures and videos, though please note they are exaggerated in the photos as they are highlighted under direct workshop lighting. To the naked eye, they are not particularly noticeable and are purely cosmetic. It has clearly been looked after and remains in very good shape.

As with all instruments that pass through my hands, this guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment to ensure it arrives stage ready. I have deep cleaned all the hardware, conditioned the fretboard, and cleaned and tested all the pots and switches. It has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge) and given a full workshop setup, dialed in with a comfortable medium/low action that makes it an absolute joy to play.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro Trans Blue Burst (2017) with Coil-Splitting – SOLD

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and this 2017 Standard Pro in Trans Blue Burst is quite a looker. This particular example was built in July 2017 at the Qingdao factory in China, a facility that has proven itself time and again when it comes to delivering modern build quality and excellent structural reliability.

It seems a bit like the No. 10 bus, you wait ages for one, and then two come along at once! The last Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro Trans Blue Burst I had available a few weeks back sold within just 3 days, so don’t miss out on this absolute beast of a guitar.

Under the hood, this “Pro” model is packed with top-tier factory features. It comes equipped with Epiphone’s USA-designed ProBucker pickups, featuring a vintage PAF-voiced ProBucker-2 in the neck and a slightly hotter ProBucker-3 in the bridge, both loaded with Alnico II magnets for that warm, rich, and articulate classic rock bite. For ultimate tonal versatility, the electronics feature a standard 3-way toggle switch paired with full-size controls, including two volume knobs equipped with push/pull coil-splitting. This allows you to instantly drop each humbucker into a single-coil sound on the fly, giving you everything from thick, heavy humbucker crunch to snappy, Strat-like clarity.

Overall, the guitar is in great condition, showing only the usual very light surface swirls visible under direct lighting. However, I believe in total transparency with all my instruments, so please note the following:

• Repaired Ding: This guitar had a sizable ding (about 2cm) on the back. This has now been sympathetically repaired in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop. Although it can still be seen under direct light, it is now completely smooth to the touch and is really not all that noticeable, especially as it is located on the back of the guitar.
• Lacquer Cracks: Whilst preparing the guitar for sale, it was noticed that the guitar has two very minor, surface-only lacquer cracks by the nut (the larger being less than 4cm and the other about 1cm). I have checked this area thoroughly with a UV light and I am very confident that this is a minor lacquer defect that does not affect the playability or neck stability in any way. You can only feel it by running your nail over the area, and most people would miss it entirely. I have tried to photograph and video this as clearly as possible to provide reassurance.  I am so confident with this not being a structural issue that, whilst I do not normally offer guarantees, in this instance, should the guitar neck fail in this specific area only, I will accept a return and provide a full refund up to 6 months from the date of purchase. (Note: This is subject to the guitar being returned to me with no signs of misuse; it must be in the exact same condition as when it was purchased, other than the mentioned area failing, with no signs of further damage).

As with all instruments that pass through my hands, this guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment to ensure it arrives stage ready. I have deep cleaned all the hardware, conditioned the fretboard, and cleaned and tested all the pots and switches. It has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge) and given a full workshop setup, dialed in with a comfortable medium/low action that makes it an absolute joy to play.
