The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and who doesn’t love a Les Paul Custom in classic ebony? It’s a guitar worthy of being in absolutely everyone’s arsenal. This particular example is an absolute gem, built in January 2005 at the highly respected Unsung factory in Korea.
Korean-made Epiphones from the Unsung plant (typically identified by the “U” prefix in the serial number) are often considered part of the “golden era” of Epiphone manufacturing. These guitars are widely respected for their build quality, consistency and craftsmanship, with many players praising their resonance, feel and overall reliability. Over the years, they have developed a strong reputation as serious value instruments that, when properly set up, can comfortably rival far more expensive modern Gibsons in both playability and tone.
What truly elevates this Custom from a great guitar to a spectacular one is what’s under the hood. It has been fitted by the previous owner with a premium set of Seymour Duncan ’59 (SH-1) humbuckers. These top-tier pickups alone would set you back over £250+!! Designed in the spirit of the original 1950s P.A.F. humbuckers and wound on Seymour’s classic Leesona 102 machine from the old Gibson factory, they deliver tons of old-school tonal character. They give the guitar a warm, full sound with a sweet, bright top end and clear attack. Whether you are pushing heavy classic rock riffs or rolling back for smooth blues, these pickups make the guitar sound absolutely massive.
A guitar of this age (now over 21 years old) is rarely seen in this kind of shape. It is in near-perfect condition. Other than one small chip/dent on the lower horn, I can’t find anything else to note. It only shows the usual, very light surface swirl marks of a guitar that has been well looked after but very much enjoyed. All of these have been shown as clearly as possible in the pictures and video, highlighted under direct workshop lighting.
As with all instruments that pass through my hands, this guitar has had a full professional setup in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop. This includes a deep clean of all parts, fretboard conditioning, and a thorough cleaning of all pots and switches to ensure 100% reliability. It has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9–42 gauge) and plays beautifully with a comfortable low action.
The renowned build quality of the Unsung factory combined with the massive Seymour Duncan tonal upgrade makes this guitar a total powerhouse. I can assure you, if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!
No gig bag or hard case is included in the price, but as a specialist reseller, I have various suitable options available separately. I stock a number of brand-new Gator bags and cases, as well as a few quality second-hand options.
