Epiphone Les Paul Standard Tobacco Burst (2004)

Description

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and this 2004 Standard in Tobacco Burst is a rock-solid example of why these mid-2000s models are so highly regarded as dependable workhorses. This particular guitar was built in December 2004 at the DaeWon factory. Within the guitar community, “DW” models are often highly praised for their heavy, resonant wood choices and exceptional sustain, making them a favourite for players who want that classic, Les Paul feel, sound, resonance and look.

Now over 22 years old, it’s fair to say this guitar has “lived a life.” It isn’t a case queen, it’s a guitar that has been played and enjoyed, and it wears that history with a lot of character. Naturally, it has picked up some knocks, scrapes, and bruises along the way. Most of these are very minor surface scratches that are primarily visible under direct lighting, and notably, the front of the guitar remains in very clean shape with no visible marks or dents.

I want to be totally transparent regarding the condition: when this guitar reached the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop, it had two “gnarly” looking dents. To ensure these didn’t develop further or lead to more lacquer loss, I have undertaken cosmetic repairs to stabilize them. They are now filled and are smooth to the touch. While they remain visible, they have no impact on the structural integrity or the way the guitar feels against you while playing. I have highlighted these clearly in the photos and videos (with before and after pics).

Despite its journey, the guitar is in generally very good shape for a guitar of its age. It feels very comfortable in the hand and has that “broken-in” feel that only comes with age. The guitar has undergone a full professional refurbishment to ensure it’s stage-ready, which includes a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge) and a setup with a comfortable medium/low action that makes it a joy to play. Additionally, all hardware has been deep-cleaned, the fretboard conditioned, and all pots and switches have been cleaned.

If you are looking for a pristine, ‘out of the box’ brand-new instrument, this may not be the one for you. But if you want a mature, well-built Les Paul with genuine mojo and a professional setup that’s ready to work, this is a fantastic option at a great price. I can assure you, if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

No gig bag or hard case is included in the price, but as a specialist reseller, I have various suitable options available separately including brand-new Gator bags and cases, as well as some second-hand options. Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60’s (2023) “Inspired by Gibson” Iced Tea Burst

This Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60s “Inspired by Gibson” in a stunning Iced Tea Burst is a fantastic example of the newer generation of Epiphone guitars, designed with vintage-accurate specifications and that unmistakable classic Les Paul feel.

The Les Paul is, of course, one of the most iconic guitars in the world, used by countless guitar heroes over the years. This particular example was made in August 2023 at the Qingdao factory in China and presents in exceptional condition, clearly having been very well looked after.

Part of Epiphone’s hugely successful “Inspired by Gibson” range, these models were created to bring the look, feel and tone of vintage Les Pauls to a more accessible price point. You get all the key ingredients here, a mahogany body paired with a maple cap for that classic combination of warmth, punch and top-end clarity, delivering the unmistakable Les Paul sound.

Every so often there is a guitar that I work on in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop that I think to myself, wow, that feels really great in the hand, it sounds great and looks stunning, this one is it! In my opinion, this is the absolute dogs b$£locks of the current Epiphone stock! It could be that I personally love this darker sunburst paired with a fretboard wood that is also darker than usual, or it could just be that unmistakable Les Paul sound, coupled with a nice, comfortable low action.

This guitar is fitted with Epiphone USA-designed ProBucker humbuckers, with a ProBucker 2 in the neck and a slightly hotter ProBucker 3 in the bridge. Together with CTS potentiometers and vintage-style wiring, this setup delivers rich, dynamic, touch-sensitive tones, from smooth, warm cleans to biting, articulate lead sounds. It’s a very responsive guitar that feels alive in the hands.

The guitar features a Kalamazoo-style headstock, Grover tuners, Graph Tech nut, and Epiphone’s LockTone Tune-o-matic bridge and stop bar tailpiece, all contributing to excellent tuning stability, sustain and reliability.

Condition-wise, this is in almost perfect condition. There is a very slight dent (less than 4mm by 3mm) located on the front side by the low E string bridge screw. It is almost completely smooth to the feel and could easily be mistaken for a natural wood knot. There are also a few minor marks on the bridge pickup cover where the previous owner had temporarily removed it, these are easily overlooked unless you are actively looking for them. Otherwise, it just has the usual very light swirl marks of a guitar that has been well looked after but very much enjoyed. All of these have been shown as clearly as possible in the pictures and video and highlighted under direct light.

The guitar has had a full professional setup, including cleaning of all parts, fretboard conditioning, pots & switch cleaning, and has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9–42 gauge). It plays beautifully with a comfortable low action.

Other than the very minor cosmetic signs mentioned above, this is a superb example that deserves to continue to be played and enjoyed.

Epiphone Les Paul ES Hollow Body Cherry Sunburst 2002 (Saein factory, Korea)

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This is a fantastic example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, semi-hollow Epiphone Les Paul ES.  This particular guitar was built in October 2002 at the prestigious Saein factory in Korea.

Early 2000s Korean-made Epiphones from the Saein plant, (identified by the “I” prefix), are legendary among players. This Epiphone factory is often referred to as the “Shine” factory and was actually awarded Gibson’s “Best Quality Award” for their manufacturing excellence during this exact era. These guitars represent the “golden era” of Epiphone production. Guitars built during this period in Korea are widely respected for their skilled construction, quality wood selection and excellent craftsmanship. Many players praise the consistent build quality, resonance and use of high-quality woods, components and feel, and these guitars have developed a strong reputation as serious value giants. When properly set up, they can comfortably rival far more expensive modern Gibsons, in both playability and tone.

I have sold many guitars over the years, and I have to say, Epiphone ES models from this era are among my absolute favourite Epiphones. They offer a unique “woody” hollow body resonance, and a lighter feel without sacrificing that classic Les Paul punch.

Now over 24 years old, this guitar is in great condition for its age and has clearly been well looked after. Naturally, over nearly a quarter-century of use, it has picked up some minor cosmetic marks, bumps, and light surface scratches and some discoloration of the gold hardware. Some of the cream plastics are showing slight degeneration. Interestingly, this guitar has started to develop some lovely light wear on the fretboard wood (around the 2^nd to 5^th frets), the kind of authentic “player wear” that only comes from years of being genuinely enjoyed. Most of the bumps, marks, and degeneration are only visible under direct lighting and are purely cosmetic, with no impact on the structure. I have shown these as clearly as possible in the pictures and videos.

The guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop. This included the installation of a new neck pickup tone pot, a clean up of the hardware, and the cleaning and testing of all pots and switches. It has also been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge) and has received a full professional setup to ensure it plays beautifully with a comfortable, medium action.

These “Golden Era” Korean ES models are becoming harder and harder to find in good condition at a sensible price. This is the third Epiphone Les Paul ES I’ve had in stock, the first (an Unsung build), sold for over £700, and the second sold very quickly, within just two weeks. They are rare, highly sought after, and play beautifully. Don’t let this one get away from you!

Other than the minor cosmetic signs of age mentioned above, this is a well-built, mature Korean-made Epiphone that deserves to continue to be played and enjoyed.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro Honey Burst (2014) 50’s Wiring + Other Upgrades

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years, and this 2014 Standard Pro in Honey Burst is a delightful example of these great guitars. Built in September 2014 at the highly regarded Qingdao factory in China, this instrument features a sweet Honey Burst finish that is delightfully complemented by a beautiful, naturally dark fingerboard.

Under the hood, this guitar has been thoughtfully transformed. It is loaded with a pair of USA-designed Epiphone Alnico Classic PRO pickups. To take full advantage of these, the electronics have been completely overhauled with high-grade CTS pots, Sprague Orange Drop capacitors (SBE225P100v), and vintage cloth push-back wire. As a final touch, the previous owner upgraded the tuners with Deluxe Kluson-style traditional tuners.

The harness has been wired to authentic 1950’s style specifications. Unlike standard modern wiring that can get muddy and lose its treble when you turn down the volume, ’50s wiring acts as a natural treble bleed, keeping your tone crisp and clear even at lower volumes. Because the volume and tone knobs dynamically “talk” to each other in this circuit, you can easily roll the volume down for sparkly, articulate rhythm parts, and then just turn it right back up for a full, bright solo boost.

Condition-wise, this guitar is in damn near perfect condition. I genuinely can’t find a single bump or ding anywhere on it; it looks like it just left the factory. There is some extremely minor, natural oxidation starting to show on the bridge posts, but other than that, it is immaculate. In my humble opinion, the thoughtful upgrades have elevated this guitar far beyond its original factory specs.

As with all instruments that pass through my hands, this guitar has just undergone a thorough professional refurbishment to ensure it arrives studio and stage ready. I have cleaned all the hardware, conditioned the fretboard, and cleaned and tested all the pots and switches. It has been restrung with a fresh set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound strings (9-42 gauge) and given a full workshop setup in the Sosbro Guitar Co. workshop, dialed in with a comfortable medium action that makes it an absolute joy to play.

I can assure you, if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Cherry Sunburst 2009 Unsung Factory

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This ‘case queen’ is a perfect example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, Epiphone Les Paul.  This guitar was made in the Unsung Plant in Korea in October 2009.

This guitar seems to have hardly been played, and I challenge you to find a ‘used’ Les Paul Standard built in 2009 (16 years ago) in better shape!

Full disclosure:  On inspecting the guitar whilst setting it up and preparing ready for sale, it was noticed that the guitar has a very minor surface only lacquer crack above the neck pocket on the neck, (less than 4cm); this a minor lacquer defect and does not affect the playability/neck stability in any way.  You can only feel this by running you nail over the area (most people would miss it). I have tried to photograph and video to show the above mentioned to provide reassurance. I am so confident with this not being an issue, whilst I do not normally offer guarantees, in this instance, should the guitar neck fail, in this area only, I would accept a return and provide a full refund, up to 6 months from the date of purchase, subject to the guitar being returned to me with no signs of misuse i.e. the guitar must be in the same condition as when it was purchased from me, other than the mentioned area fail, with no signs of further damage.

I have shown the above in the pictures and videos and should it be required I can provide more photo’s/videos upon request.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Ebony (Black) 2013

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This is a great example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, Epiphone Les Paul.  This guitar was made in the Qingdao factory in China in November 2013.

It has just had a full setup, making various small adjustments to lower the action and make the guitar sing, this included a fretboard condition, cleaned frets, cleaned chrome parts, pots & switch being cleaned, and re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (9-46) gauge.

The guitar has clearly been used and enjoyed for many years and will continue to be enjoyed as it feels and sounds great!  It remains in good overall condition with loads of life left in the frets.  The guitar has a very small dent just behind the 5^th fret dot marker.  There are also a few minor scratches and marks around the body but these there are the very typical normal dents/marks and light scratches of a guitar that’s been played and enjoyed for 12 years, certainly nothing that affects play, or are noticeable unless inspecting the guitar thoroughly.  I have shown all of the above in the pictures and videos and I can provide more photo’s/videos upon request. These marks and imperfections are purely cosmetic and don’t affect playability in any way.

This guitar is also loaded with Epiphone 57 Classic Alnico 5 pickups. The 57 is a humbucker pickup designed for today’s guitar player regardless of style or genre. The unique combination of Alnico V magnets and steel pole pieces evoke an unmistakably PAF quality in its tone.  Alnico V magnets provide the warm, smooth mid-range, and expansive lows while the ceramic pole pieces bring out the clarity in the Sound.

This guitar looks as good as it feels and sounds. I can assure you if this becomes your new axe, you will not be disappointed!

Excellent knowledge and no pressure approach of anything to do with a guitar. Repaired the broken neck of my Gibson Les Paul and made adjustments to the set up, restrung and cleaned now plays amazing. My Stratocaster had lost its magic after 10 or so years of constant play, especially towards the higher end but after a few days with Ben felt brand-new again.  My fender P Bass also had years of play with no set up. I was having issues with the bridge which Ben managed to fix instantly. When adjusting the trust rod Ben noticed that the bass felt different and reverted back to its original position which was a very nice personal touch for me as it plays exactly the way I want it, keeping the string tension low. Ben assured me if I had any problems to bring it back straight away, but I have no problems at all. The write ups/reports provided are a really cool extra as I get to read everything Ben has done. 100% recommended.

Ben did an absolutely fantastic job setting up my guitar. It plays and sounds better than ever! He’s super helpful, super friendly, and clearly knows his stuff. He took the time to explain everything and made sure I was completely happy before I left. Couldn’t recommend him highly enough!

Fender USA Stratocaster 1987 in Olympic White Maple Fingerboard – Rare EE Serial No.

This is an iconic, beautifully balanced, easy to play, great sounding guitar played by the greats such a Hendrix, Clapton, Gilmore etc.

In 1985 CBS sold Fender to a group of Fender employees backed by private investors, and they opened the flagship US factory and headquarters in Corona, California. This guitar was made in the US in 1987 (CTS pots dated), in the Corona factory, and it was made for the export market, hence the EE serial number. The EE serial numbered models are quite sort after, as rumour has it that Custom shop parts were used in the production of these models, and the EE serial number models are well known for their exceptional build quality.

This beautiful example has mojo oozing out of it! This is a vintage guitar now aged 38, and like a good wine, it is only getting better in time.

These guitars are not so easy to date however the year of production has been verified by the dating of the CTS pots (as shown in the pics).

The guitar has a lovely feeling neck, easy to play and the fingerboard is in excellent shape with plenty of life left in the frets. The action is low and the guitar has been recently had a full setup, to make the guitar sing, and been re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (9-46) gauge. The TBX tone control had a slight crackle when being turned however this has been almost entirely eliminated with some switch cleaner and is now hardly noticeable and was not worthwhile replacing.

The guitar has been played and enjoyed and bears the marks typical of a guitar of its age, (all shown in the pictures).

It comes with its original Fender case.

Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute Plus Translucent Black 2016 with Gibson ’57 classic humbuckers

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This guitar is a great example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, best of the Epiphone Les Paul range.  This guitar was made in China in 2016 and is in good condition.

The Epiphone Les Paul 1960 Tribute Plus honours Epiphone’s friendship with innovator Les Paul by combining his classic design features with legendary Epiphone quality and value with the added feature of Gibson USA ’57 classic humbuckers, series parallel switching, a 1960’s Slim-Taper neck profile, a Locktone Stopbar/Tune-o-matic tailpiece and bridge and Grover Rotomatic machine heads.

The guitar is in good condition for a rock machine properly enjoyed since it was built! 

The guitar has a slight indent on the back of the neck bass side, around the third fret, it also has a minor lacquer crack by the nut treble side (less than 2cm); these are minor, and do not affect the playability/neck stability in any way.  The guitar has some small areas on the body where there are some surface only marks / playing scratches, these are barely visible and mostly only visible moving the guitar in and out of direct light.  As would be expected some of the hardware has started to naturally age, again hardly visible and some people pay extra for this from the Gibson Murphy Lab! Please note that these are purely cosmetic and barely noticeable to the naked eye. I have tried to photograph and video to show all of the above mentioned to provide reassurance.

It has had a full setup, making various small adjustments to lower the action and make the guitar sing, this included a fretboard condition, and re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (9-46) gauge.

The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years; this one is definitely giving off Slash vibes. This guitar is a good example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, Epiphone Les Paul.  This guitar was made in either the DeaWon or Unsung factory in China in November 2008.

It has just had a full setup, making various small adjustments to lower the action and make the guitar sing, this included a fretboard condition, cleaned frets, pots being cleaned, and re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (9-42) gauge.

The guitar is in good condition overall with loads of life left in the frets, the only thing to note is that the guitar over the years had picked up some dents, these have been sympathetically filled and polished. As typical with guitars of this age it has the usual minor light play marks (exaggerated on the photos as under direct lighting). I have shown these in the pictures and videos. Please note that these marks are purely cosmetic. The only one of which still really noticeable to the naked eye was a repaired knock on the back of the guitar close to the jack socket and back plate. The guitar has been well looked after and is in good condition for a guitar built over 17 years ago!

Other than the above mentioned visual imperfections this guitar has been played, loved and been well looked after, it needs to continue to be played and enjoyed.

Epiphone Les Paul Standard in Ebony (Black) 2012.

Description:
The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This is a nice example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, Epiphone Les Paul. This guitar was made in the Samick factory in Indonesia in August 2012.

It has just had a full setup, making various small adjustments to lower the action and make the guitar sing, this included a fretboard condition, cleaned frets, pots being cleaned, and re-strung with a new set of D’Addario nickel wound XL strings (9-42) gauge.

The guitar has clearly been used and enjoyed for many years and will continue to be enjoyed as it feels and sounds great! It remains in good overall condition with loads of life left in the frets. The guitar has a dent at the bottom front of the guitar body between the jack socket and the strap pin. There is also an affected area at the back of the headstock. Other than that, there are the typical normal dents/marks and light scratches of a guitar that’s been played and enjoyed for 13 years. Please refer to the various pictures.

Full disclosure: On inspecting the guitar whilst setting it up and preparing ready for sale, it was noticed that the guitar appears to have taken a knock to the headstock at some point of its life. As a result of this, on the G string tuner there is a hairline crack (both front and back as pictured). Please note that this has not totally separated and has now been glued with titebond wood glue. This does not affect the guitar structurally in any way. I am so confident with this not being an issue, whilst I do not normally offer guarantees, in this instance, should the guitar headstock fail, in the repaired area, I would accept a return and provide a full refund, up to 6 months from the date of purchase, subject to the the guitar being returned to me with no signs of misuse i.e. the guitar must be in the same condition as when it was purchased from me, other than the headstock G string area fail, with no signs of further damage.

I have shown all of the above in the pictures and videos and I can provide more photo’s/videos upon request. These marks and imperfections are purely cosmetic and don’t affect playability in any way.

I have priced the guitar to reflect the disclosed above information.
