The Les Paul is an iconic guitar used by many guitar heroes over the years. This is a fantastic example of the beautiful, expertly constructed, semi-hollow Epiphone Les Paul ES. This guitar was built in March 2001 at the highly regarded Unsung factory in Korea.
Early 2000s Korean-made Epiphones from the Unsung plant (typically identified by the “U” prefix in the serial number) are often considered part of the “golden era” of Epiphone manufacturing. These guitars are widely respected for their skilled construction, quality wood selection and excellent craftsmanship. Many players praise the consistent build quality, resonance and use of high-quality woods, components and feel, and these guitars have developed a strong reputation as serious value giants. When properly set up, they can comfortably rival far more expensive modern Gibsons, in both playability and tone.
This guitar is now over 25 years old and has clearly been well looked after. Naturally, over time it had picked up some minor cosmetic knocks, marks and scratches. It has now undergone a thorough refurbishment, with some of the light bumps, knocks and scratches sympathetically filled and polished. These areas are now really only visible under direct lighting. As expected for a guitar of this age, there are still some normal light surface scratches consistent with 25 years of careful use. Please note there are no breaks or repairs other than the mentioned marks and scratches and these are purely cosmetic, I have shown these in the pictures and videos as best as possible.
It has had a new Switchcraft 3-way toggle switch professionally installed, all hardware cleaned, and the pots cleaned. It has also been re-strung with a new set of D’Addario XL Nickel Wound Strings (9-42) gauge and set up to play beautifully with comfortable low action.
This is the second 2001 Unsung-made Les Paul ES I have had for sale, the first one was listed at £775, these are rarer than hen’s teeth, so don’t let this one get away from you.
Other than the minor cosmetic signs of age mentioned above, this is a well-built, mature Korean-made Epiphone that deserves to continue to be played and enjoyed.
